WNBA 2010 – 13 Players I Watch

I’m a WNBA fan. If I have the time and access, I will happily watch a game and enjoy the experience. But there are some players that elevate the experience for me. We all have them. These are the women who we will pay extra attention to, distracting us from the general patterns of team offense and defense. Sometimes it’s about their high skill level. Sometimes it’s because we actually know them. Sometimes it’s their personality — they remind us of people we tend to friend. And sometimes it’s just because we find them attractive (let’s be honest…). Whatever it is, they help keep our attention fixed on what’s happening on the court.

So, here’s my list in order of third & fourth letters of their last name (any ordering would have been arbitrary, so why hide it?):

  • Lauren Jackson
  • Sidney Spencer
  • Marissa Coleman
  • Allison Bales
  • Kristi Toliver
  • Taj McWilliams-Franklin
  • DeLisha Milton-Jones
  • Crystal Langhorne
  • Sue Bird
  • Tamika Catchings
  • Tammy Sutton-Brown
  • Diana Taurasi
  • Tully Bevilaqua

What can we glean from this? Not much. Obviously, if you are a Maryland alumna, I’m going to pay attention (it just so happens I’d have paid attention to the three Terps here regardless). There are a few more C and F/C than I expected, but c’est la vie.

Like I said, it’s a totally subjective list. There are plenty of other players that I love to watch as well, I just make less of an effort. There are younger players, there are not-as-younger players (they are ALL younger players to me sigh). Fortunately for me, they are sort of scattered around the league so most games give me a player or two that I get to be fannish about, which is always a plus.
