A Wee Bit of Rest

Finally, a little bit of rest. With my dad’s illness, work, and trying to catch up on all the house maintenance I let slide for the past couple of years, I didn’t really have a good stretch of time when I could feel like I could take a break. A decent break. Those days have finally arrived.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m still keeping busy. Finally got the trim on the front of the house painted. It’s been so windy lately, it was tough fitting it in. Now it’s the backyard’s turn. The backyard has gotten so eroded that I’ve embarked on a lengthy process to add topsoil in responsible stages to make it so that the lawn gets healthy. Some of the low parts are down to ground so hard packed that it’s tough to break even with a pick. Those spots will eventually get raised between 3-to-six inches.

The major impetus of raising the lawn was my brother breaking our lawn mower. You see, the roots on our central tree have gotten so exposed that accidentally running over one bent and tore the lawn mower blade and tore the heck out of the engine. So, being that I’m not wanting to spend the money to buy more than one replacement mower, it’s best that I actually solve the problem (the topsoil) instead of throwing a band-aid on it (the mower). Wish the government had the sense to be as conscientious.

Much doings with the Scotts* this past month. I think I’ve been on as much of an emotional roller coaster about it as they. No deets, but it has certainly hammered home the fact that they are most definitely family…family I care very much about. Which, despite the stress and smile lines, is the greatest gift I’ve received in my life.  I mean, I care about my friends, too, but not like this.  They even find me sort of helpful to have around sometimes, which is nice.  Having a whole pack of intelligent, good-hearted, and strong-willed women in your life is something I whole-heartedly recommend.

Oh yeah, I guess I should update the leg injury. It did get a lot uglier than that last photo I posted. On the inside of the calf it had gotten bruised almost solidly from below the ankle up to almost the knee. That has now almost all disappeared. All I have left is the very slowly shrinking goose-egg — which itches like crazy, sometimes.

So, as I said, I’m trying to take things easier for the time being. I’m still working on art (got my new-used projector today–yippee!) and writing. In fact, you can check out some article/blog type stuff over at hubpages. I’ve been posting there as of late. From me you can read about art (CJ’s Creative Studio – How I Airbrushed “Musing Holly”, writing (CJ’s Creative Studio – Some Thoughts on Dialog), and general subjects (What Are Olympic Medals Worth?). Check it out.
