Therefore I Blog – A Lot
I got an email from a relatively new subscriber who said that she noticed that my byline was on every article. She wondered if I’d actually written everything or if I was just taking the credit. The story?
I write every single blog. Every. Single. Blog. sigh Though I do take a couple of days off a month when I simply don’t have the time, I pretty much write 1-2 (up to 4) blogs every day. Except for Snippets, which are usually about 500 words (and my Journal which can be any length), most of my blogs since T I B went online are in the neighborhood of 1,500 words (though longer is not unusual).
One of the reasons that I have a variety of categories is so I don’t get totally burned out by writing about the same thing all the time. Even though I do get the freedom of a variety of subjects to write about, I do sometimes have the same problem as other bloggers: always having to come up with something new to write. Truth be told, while most of my articles do get published for your reading pleasure, I have many stories started that will likely not be finished. Sometimes it just doesn’t “click”.
So yeah. I figure I’m writing between 10,000 and 15,000 words a week. Sometimes I look at columnists who write 3 500-1000 word columns a week (for money, no less), and I can’t help but sneer. Slackers.
The future? Darned if I know. I’ll keep writing because that’s what I do. I write. Will it always be a one-person operation? Don’t know. No one has ever offered their services so I’ve never been in the position of having to decide if they exceed my obviously low standards. I’ve only had a few vague story suggestions that were more follow-ups to previous stories than anything brand-spanking-new.
And so you know…no, I haven’t sold out. My writing is “pure”. It’s not that I’d mind selling out (i.e. doing this for filthy lucre), but what are the odds? In this economy? At this hour?
So my cyborg-zombies…there it is. I write. I write a lot. Some of it good. Some of it otherwise. But at least you are pretty sure that if you give it a day, you’ll probably have something new to read. I try not to leave you wanting for content. Interesting content, perhaps, but at least there’s content.
