I’m So Tired of Congress

It’s hard to believe, but earlier in my lifetime the folks in Congress actually tried to govern. Really. As time has gone on, it stopped working. Compromise ceased to be. Over the past few decades, the power brokers have managed to cripple a critical piece of American government. I’m sad to see it happen.

The Celebrity Twitter Mystique

It’s an amazing phenomenon that happens on Twitter: one celebrity announces that another celebrity is now on Twitter and multitudes quickly flock to follow them. I’m not disparaging or mocking this, as I do it myself with the celebs I’m interested in, but I can’t help but wonder how perceptions form based on this.

Some Quick Lobby Numbers

In 2008, companies and interest groups spent at least $3.42 billion to lobby Congress and the Federal Government. That’s really just another dollar amount to us at this point. Let’s look at it this way: that equates to 68,400 jobs with a gross pay of $50,000.
