The Maryland women’s basketball team has a youthful core that is very reminiscent of the 2005-06 championship team. They still have some tweaking, though, to reach that level–sometimes they look like a very young team. Fortunately, these adjustments are few and mostly “easily” done.

Perhaps the best part of the WNBA “Stars at the Sun” weekend was WNBA President Donna Orender’s press conference. What made this one notable was that Ms Orender’s smiling, optimistic face gave way to that of a league president bristling over some of the obstacles she’s had to strain against.

I was going to post this along with my early season thoughts, but I held off until after the outdoor game between Los Angeles and Seattle, which Seattle controlled the entire game for the win. There has been a lot of talk about expanding the NCAA Division I Basketball Tournament on the men’s side from 65 to 96 teams. As a result, there is also talk of altering the women’s side of the tournament as well. Some suggestions make more sense than others.

The University of Connecticut Women’s Basketball team’s record now stands at 74-0 double-digit wins and counting. The amazing thing is that this sort of dominance isn’t unusual for the Huskies.
