Method or Madness?

When it comes to acting, I’m not a fan of “The Method”. While I sort of agree with the concept of it, the fact is that I think it has hurt American acting (especially) more than it has helped.

Fixing Death Penalty Madness

In the many pushes to repeal death penalties around the country, the most compelling in recent days has been the cost of death row inmates versus life imprisoned convicts. Clearly the system needs to be adjusted, but how?

More Metric Stuff

I’ve gotten a lot of emails about my articles about the necessity of the U.S. converting to metric soon (President Obama, Give Us a Yard and We’ll Take a Meter; Some Practical Consequences of Going Metric). Let me address a few of them.

Why I Write

Following my post, TTSCC Scenes I’d Like to See (Part 5) – Veritas, I received an email from a casual lurker (their words) asking why do I post these scenes? Did I expect to be “discovered” or something?

The SNOT Approach To Clearing Space Debris

With the total number of objects both large and small in Earth orbit increasing by the year, the chance of more collisions is constantly on the rise. It is long past the time that we need to deal with the problem. I think the best plan is to start with something low-tech: snot.

Let’s Calculate Television Program Ratings a New Way

The time has come to stop depending on the statistical few to have the same tastes as the variety of viewers across the country. When they are picking from half-a-dozen choices, that might have had some merit, but when picking from about 1,000 choices, those 5,000 Nielsen families seem woefully under-representative. With just a new twist with available technology, there can be upwards of 200,000,000 votes as to what is worthy of being on the air and what isn’t. Whether watched live on DTV, or a week later off your laptop’s hard-drive, you can tell the powers that be that you are watching.

Good News – City Worker Helps More Than Rules Permit

I have to be really vague so they don’t get into trouble, but I need to thank a city employee who went the extra mile for me today. While he might have exceeded what he was allowed to do by law, he certainly rose up to the level of what he was supposed to do as a “neighbor” and human being.

Maryland Lady Terps Win 2009 ACC Tournament

It was another battle to save in the vault between the Terps and the Blue Devils. Though this was the first time they met in the ACC Tournament finals, it wasn’t their first meeting in a final in their history. But, as in the 2006 NCAA Championship game, Maryland toughed it out for a hard-won win (Duke 89 – MD 92).

T:TSCC 0217 – Ourselves Alone

Terminator – The Sarah Connor Chronicles 0217 “Ourselves Alone” – Featuring our primary cast, this episode hit a lot of important issues. But before I get into that, I want to say that I think I’ve figured out what has been hampering the show as of late, and I’d be remiss if I didn’t talk about it.

Please, Correct Your Aspect Ratio

OK, this is driving me nuts. People, attend to your aspect ratios. I’m sick to death of 16:9 (widescreen) videos being scrunched to 4:3 (normal). Though it happens a little less frequently, stretching 4:3 vids to fit 16:9 is just as awful.
