Rec’ing On…Beijing Olympics – Part 3

As mentioned in the previous update, the day started with Women’s Basketball.  In the early match, the US struggled against China.  And when I say “struggled”, I mean that they had a tough time dialing back their first half rout so as to not embarrass their hosts.  Amazingly, the 108-63 score shows great restraint on the American’s part.  The second game between Australia and Brazil was a little more exciting, but not by a lot. It’s pretty clear that the USA and Australia are the class of the field.  The question is whether the US being in the easier group will be a help or hindrance.

Michael Phelps…blah, blah…gold medal, world record. Maybe I’d be more excited if he had Spitz’s moustache…the Magnum P.I. of the swimming pool.

Oh, there was a fantastic game of Handball between Hungary and Brazil. Hungary led for most of the game, but Brazil’s women managed to forge a lead in the last minute of the match.  Then, with one second left, Hungary tied the Brazilians on a well-timed penalty throw. Wow.

Is it evil that I’ve been watching a lot of Badminton?

I’d be remiss if I didn’t send major kudos to the USA Men’s Gymnastics team for scoring an unexpected bronze in the face of the Hamm injuries that caused the team to be missing their top gymnasts.
