Rec’ing on…University of Maryland’s REPEAT Field Hockey Championship
They did it. The ladies in black and gold did it. They broke the cycle. Maryland has previously won NCAA field hockey national championships in 1987, 1993, 1999, and 2005. The keen observer will note that those years are six years apart. If this pattern had held, Maryland wasn’t due for another Field Hockey national championship until 2011. Wisely, I think, the players and coaches thought that six years was too long to wait this time. So, on Sunday November 19, 2006, they took matters into their own hands and onto their sticks.
Facing off against Wake Forest
, on Wake’s home field, the Terps showed their mettle and eeked out a 1-0 victory against the number one team in the nation (though, since Maryland actually had been number one most of the season, Wake’s claim to number one wasn’t the strongest).
Once again, the Lady Terps have put a smile on this old diamondback’s face. Fight, fight, fight, Maryland! Fear the Turtle!!
