Thanks, ‘Riss For Delivering Maryland to the 2009 Elite Eight
There really isn’t much to say about Marissa Coleman’s performance during the game between Maryland and Vanderbilt in the “Sweet Sixteen” game of the 2009 NCAA Women’s Basketball tournament that isn’t covered by, “Wow.”
Coleman led her otherwise listless team to a victory over an under-sized Vandy squad that played their hearts out and probably deserved the win. I suppose it was only fair that Coleman spearheaded the victory. Back in the regular season, Kristi Toliver did the same in a 34-point effort against Duke.
While K.T. had a very poor day hampered by foul trouble, some note must be made that an “awful” game for this guard still results in 17 points.
This was just one of those games when you just have to shake your head and say that a player, “Is just that good.” I imagine that Angel McCoughtry’s place atop the WNBA presumptive 1st pick podium became a little more precarious, though I think it’s still solid. It will be very interesting to see those two go head to head when they face each other in the Regional Final game to determine which of these two programs makes it to the Final Four.
Once again, congratuation to the Terps and a very big thank you to ‘Riss. It’s a shame that your reward for your all-out effort will be a dunk in an ice-bath, but if it all leads to another “Natty”, I imagine all will be forgiven.
