The Insanity of Double Grilling
People doing their own thing is right and proper, but when that people is my mom, and what she does is clearly insane, I have to make mention of it here.
Tonight my mom made tuna melts and grilled cheese sandwiches for dinner. Now that all seems all Ameri-suburban and isn’t outside of the confines of Ameri-sub quirkiness. But here’s the thing…when she made the grilled cheese sandwiches, she made sure to grill the INSIDE parts as well. Yup. First she put on a smear of mayo on two slices of bread (hey, she likes to use mayo…odd, but not quite Ameri-sub crazy) and then put them on the griddle to toast up. Once they are golden, she then removes them and mayos the other side of one, puts it on the griddle, and puts the cheese on top. She then mayos the other slice’s as-of-yet un-grilled side and completes the assembly of the sammy.
I think double grilling qualifies as moving past the realm of quirky. What’s worse, she claims that she’s always done it that way. I’ve never seen her do it that way. My brother confirmed that he’s never seen her do it that way. And neither one of us can think of anyone we’ve ever known who has done it that way.
I think I have to get a new mom; this one’s clearly had it.
