Rec’ing on…University of Maryland Men’s Soccer Championship

For the second time in three weeks I find myself heaping praise on the success of one of my alma mater’s athletic teams. The University of Maryland Men’s Soccer Team just finished winning the NCAA championship, going against a "physical" team from the University of New Mexico. Although some members of my family have UNM ties, I was not encumbered with that burden as I enjoyed watching my Terps in action.

In the interest of full disclosure, I have to admit that it’s tougher to gush about this championship than it was to enthuse about the Field Hockey team. While I do follow all of Maryland athletics, I’m a bit more casual when it comes to the men’s teams. Also…as long as I’m on this honestly kick…the two semi-final games were much more fun to watch than the final. Don’t get me wrong…the final certainly had its moments–the PK save by Maryland’s freshman goalkeeper, Chris Seitz, was certainly the highlight of the game.

So, a big GO TERPS! and FEAR THE TURTLE! to the men’s soccer team on an outstanding season, and a well-deserved win in the tournament.
