WPS Gets TV Deal
Women’s Professional Soccer (WPS) has announced that it has a deal in place with Fox Soccer Channel (FSC) to air a live game of the week on Sunday nights starting in 2009, the WPS’s inaugural season.
This agreement is for three years, with an option for a fourth. As such, in the first season it will have at least 20 games, including the All-star game and playoffs. FSC has also said that pre- and post-game coverage will also be included.
Given the sketchy coverage the WUSA was able to get via the not-everywhere PAX network and the few games that TNT opted to broadcast, this is very welcome news indeed. Next comes the promotion over the various FOX networks so that everyone knows that there’s women’s soccer on the tube. At least we all know that we’ll be gettin’ us some WPS on TV.
