Nifty Stuff…Korg CA-30

Unless you have perfect pitch, if you have a musical instrument (especially a stringed musical instrument), you are going to find yourself in need of a tuner. Over the years I’ve used tuning forks, pitch pipes, and various electronic tuners. After all of that trial and error, I found a tool a while back that I’m very happy to have in my guitar case.

The Korg CA-30 Chromatic Tuner is a low-cost (under $15…usually closer to $12), easy-to-use, and quick-responding tuner for both electric and acoustic instruments. The LEDs on top provide a quick indication of a string being flat, sharp, or on-pitch. The LCD “dial”, which is not backlit, gives accurate readings as to the note it is hearing, and to what degree it is off-pitch. The Tuner can also provide tones, and is somewhat adjustable to non-typical tunings. It does a lot for a small package.

It runs on two AAA battery that seemingly last forever. It measures about 4″ x 2.5″ x 0.5″ (10.2cm x 6.35cm x 1.27cm), so it fits just about anywhere you want to put it.

I *highly* recommend this gadget, and often give them away to musician friends as gifts.
