Miss Weller, Coaching, And All That Jaz
An article on knoxnews.com brought back a lot of memories. With former University of Maryland Head Women’s Basketball Coach Chris Weller’s well-deserved induction into the Women’s Basketball Hall of Fame this Saturday, the article reflects on how past players, particularly Jasmina Perazic, find that they sound like their college coach.

What’s So Special About UConn? Nothing, Really.
The University of Connecticut Women’s Basketball team’s record now stands at 74-0 double-digit wins and counting. The amazing thing is that this sort of dominance isn’t unusual for the Huskies. It makes you wonder: factoring the talent, the tactics, the defenses, what’s so special about UConn? The truth is, not that much.

Sky’s the Limit For KT, Or Is It Coach Key?

Nameless Jerseys Revisited
A little over three years ago I bemoaned the fact that Tennessee had elected to not have their player’s names on their jerseys. Since then, the policy has spread like an epidemic from school to school. I still think that this dubious practice is bad for women’s basketball and quite possibly for team sports in general.

We Commend Thee, Kay Yow (1942-2009)
NC State leader, Maryland nemesis, basketball icon, a cancer inspiration. There are so many ways to describe Kay Yow, who died early on January 24, 2009. Much will be written about her accomplishments, which I’ll not repeat. I do, however, have a few comments.

My 2008 WNBA Superlative Award Picks
Now that the regular season is over, the time has come to start thinking about who will get some of the various awards/honors for the 2008 WNBA season. As I started thinking about the various awards, one thing really struck me about this season: the players are all getting better, and it’s getting tougher each year to choose who belongs in what category. League MVP Since I’ve already went and posted about MVP (here), I’ll just list my pick and … Continue reading
