As we head into the Games of the XXX Olympiad of the modern era in London, the value of Olympic medals is certainly one with many answers. Continue reading
The WNBA is experiencing a harsh year with many stars out due to national team commitments and injury. Despite this, the league continues with an 11-player roster. If the size of the active roster doesn’t increase, some modifications are needed for the health of the teams and especially the players. Continue reading
The moment you talk about Unresolved Sexual Tension (UST) between television characters, two things happen: 1) The audience (and maybe the actors) will split as to whether or not the pair should become a couple; and 2) Someone will bring up Moonlighting…more than once. The 2012 season gives us three examples of how to deal with UTS…or how not to deal with UTS. Continue reading
The Kindle has finally gotten to the point where I can seriously consider porting scripts to it. I’m still in the testing phase, but I think it looks promising. TCW scripts make for some convenient test cases. Continue reading
The tv show In Plain Sight finished shooting its last episode today. While there are still more episodes to air, I reluctantly say good-bye to the series which I’ve watched since ep1. Continue reading
In the National Semi-finals of the 2012 NCAA Women’s Basketball Tournament, I don’t think anyone was particularly happy about the refereeing. No one will say so explicitly lest they be sanctioned by the NCAA (fines for participants, access for press) but the whistle-holders were conspicuous in their inconsistency. There needs to be some reform. Continue reading
On my websites, I try to focus much more on content than the facade. Don’t get me wrong — I do think presentation is important. Generally speaking, though, once I have a satisfying theme set up I’m not apt to make any significant changes for a while. It seems that the time for change is nigh. Continue reading
I’ve never been much of a gamer, but Wil Wheaton’s enthusiasm is…um…enthusing. Wil, you see, *is* a gamer. Together with his wife, Anne, they fight the never ending battle for truth, justice, and a 19 or 20. Continue reading
The 2012 season of the WPS was cancelled today. The question hanging in the air is whether this is the death of the league (like the previous WUSA), or if this is an opportunity for the league to experience a successful rebirth? Continue reading
There are times when you don’t want to have to work to watch a movie…especially during the holidays. Christmas Magic is an easily digested break from the hectic season. The story isn’t complicated or ironic, just quietly entertaining. Continue reading
They say that you can take the girl out of the city, but you can’t take the city out of the girl. The Christmas Pageant aims to have a town full of earnest characters worm their way into the heart of a career-oriented, driven, New York City director. Continue reading
Santa’s daughter heads south for a sabbatical in the gentle climes of Los Angeles. There, she is targeted by an actor hired by Santa’s chief of operations to get her to fall in love and decide to not return home. Obviously he won’t succeed in the end. The question is: will we care? Continue reading
This is one movie I’m not going to beat around the bush about—it’s a delightful holiday fairy tale that is tender without the treacle, a fantasy while still being grounded, and doesn’t take itself so seriously that it loses its ability to be unashamed entertainment. A Princess For Christmas is a fun melting pot that takes the familiar and creates its own magic. Continue reading
It’s been pretty obvious that the WPS, the top-tier women’s soccer league in the U.S., has been hanging on by its fingernails for a couple of seasons. While the business model is sounder than the previous WUSA, that doesn’t mean it might not meet the same fate. Continue reading
This review for A Holiday Engagement almost didn’t get written. Why? Well, that’s what we’re here to talk about. In any form of storytelling, one of the worst thing you can do is… Continue reading
