What Could Have Been Entering the Public Domain on January 1, 2012?

If the pre-1978 law were still in effect, we could have seen 85% of the works created in 1983 enter the public domain on January 1, 2012. Imagine what that would mean to our archives, our libraries, our schools and our culture.”

I’ve long been opposed to lengthy copyright terms. As a content creator for almost all of my adult life, I have as much interest in copyright as anyone. I also have an interest in letting creators build up from the shoulders of giants. I hate that IP hoarders ruin it for advancing the arts and humanities in this way.
