The Blog-slowdown Dog Days of Summer

A few of you have told me you’ve noticed I haven’t been posting to the blog as often as you’d become accustomed to. That’s totally mea culpa. I got enough piled on my life-plate that I needed to find some slack somewhere. And not just here, the social networks (Twitter, Google+, Facebook) have all been hit by the not-enough-time stick as well.

Without going into detail, there were some family medical issues that needed to be dealt with, some major house issues, and dealing with trying to make some more ducats than usual. Suffice it to say, I felt like I was adding additional ends to candles to burn. So I pulled back on the reins a bit so I could regroup and reprioritize.

First finished piece—done with my preferred tool, the airbrush. Still have a few more samples to do.

I currently have a novel WIP that I’m excited about. On the advice of friends, I also started making art samples for a specific marketing segment that I haven’t tapped into with any vigor. I hadn’t planned on inflicting more art on the world just quite yet, but the career push suggestion seemed like too good an opportunity for me to ignore—basically focusing more on custom pet portraits. Unfortunately, it’s taken all the writing projects off the front burner for the short term. This is mostly due to only having enough time to do one or the other with the expectation of doing good work. I’m hopeful that once I get fully back into an easy art rhythm that I can piggyback the writing onto my creative hours.

And then there’s the ‘net. I do keep up reading the soc-nets but writing on them…well, I could be doing better. I have a great many things I’d like to say on a lot of subjects: space, politics, life, modern digital sociology, sf, sports, geek stuff, and so forth. I’d rather not post something I’ll just have to correct or retract later. Lately, though, I’ve noticed that while I’m still struggling for novel writing time, I think I have enough to post up a few bloggity things a week to various targets (not just TIB).

I hope you’ll bear with me. As I never really take time off, the occasional slow-down is about as much “rest” as I get. Happily, it looks like things are now slowly returning back to what passes for normal. You’ve been warned :-D.
