Let’s Talk “Que Será Serees”

Barring disaster, my science fiction novel, Que Será Serees, will be released in early May. It is being prepped to be available for sale both in a print version and an ebook version for the Kindle so you’re free to pick your preferred format.

Que Será Serees (QSS) is very much an action-oriented SF journey. As the blurb on the back cover says*:

Aliens covet a technology ONLY ONE planet produces.

Verina, a young government negotiator, must learn to wage war against a feared race that has already conquered and enslaved another planet to feed its technological hunger.

In the face of the alien’s powerful military, Verina leads valiant, untrained rebels desperate to save their home before all hope of freedom runs out.

A rebel force fights against incredible odds (or a terrorist group fights an immoral fight…depending on your point of view). It’s a tale as old as civilization. When invaded, do you fight or do you accept your fate? It’s not always as clear as you might think. And as readers of The Connor Wars learned: if CJ is writing it, no one is ever safe.

The root cause of the fighting is a communications device known as “Seetun”. It is the only device capable of sending data at faster-than-light speeds—allowing various civilizations to have near-instantaneous interstellar communication. Of course, if your military and government depended on such a commodity, this would be considered a security risk…a risk that disappears if you are the ones to possess its secrets. It’s that kind of thinking that leads to invasion. Those being invaded tend not to embrace their change in circumstance. It’s then that people have to make choices about the future and the risks they are willing to take.

Since people like to classify things, let me give it a try: QSS is pulpy, hard space opera science fiction—which isn’t really a thing, but hearkens to those traditions in various degrees. Mostly, it’s one heck of a ride. After all, how often do you come across a sentient species that has only one gender? Hmmm?

Oh, and lest anyone thinks the title means the book is in Spanish, let me assure you that is not the case (at least it isn’t the case so long as a Spanish translation doesn’t exist). Que Será Serees is subtitled “What Will Be, Serees?” It’s obviously a pun based on the song made famous by Doris Day: “Que Será Será (What Will Be, Will Be)”.

As I said, the book will be released in early May 2011, so start saving up your pennies. If you like science fiction, if you like the stories I’ve told here on TIB, or even if you just want to give a poor writer and blogger a break, you could do worse than pick up a copy or thirty. Who knows…you might actually like it.
